When I was expecting my first child, I was convinced I'd go into labor and not make it to the hospital in time. I soon found out how silly that was based on how long labor can actually last. But, in my defense, there is always the exception. Take Luke Curtis Miller for example, who was more than a little impatient to meet his mommy.
Sarah Miller, Luke's mother, had been having contractions for hours, but doctors told her she was having false labor. But later that day, Miller was sure the baby was coming so she and her mom jumped into the car and headed for the hospital.
They never made it.
Fifteen minutes down the road, Luke made his arrival into the world -- he slid out and onto the floor of the Ford Expedition. Grandma stopped the car and wrapped the 7 pound baby in a blanket.
Wow! What a birth story this mom has to tell her son.
How fast was your labor?

My last baby was born 1 hour and 16 minutes after my water broke. My first contraction didn't come until 20 minutes after my water broke and went from 10 minutes to 2 minutes apart in the 25 minutes it took to get to the hospital. If it had not been in the middle of the night when she was born, my then 6 year old son would have had to deliver his sister at home! I am scared to have baby number 4! There is no way I would make it to the hospital, baby #1 was 9 hours because of the epidural, #2 was only 3 1/2 hours, #3 was 1 hour 16 minutes, there isn't much time to cut off for a fourth!
My fourth daughter came two hours after my labor started. I went into labor at 5:30 a.m., got to the hospital at 6:30, had her at 7:37. One push and she was out! lol
if you have a history of false labor you might think the real thing isn't real
That was so close to being me! I also thought I would have a long labor. I actually packed my bags in transition and left my house when I first felt the urge to push. My doula thought I would have the baby on the side of the road, but I made it with 45 minutes to spare!
My mom delivered a friends baby in the back of her van. Same thing happened.- we lived in a military neighborhood, and my dad (I was 7 at the time) and the soon-to-be father were at the base, and so the woman called mom "my water just broke!" so mom got the van over to her house, loaded in the back, loaded me in the front, and tried like hell to get to the hospital in time. never happeend. baby started crowning so mom stopped and helped deliver the baby. i lost a sweater that day...
My first took 27hrs before she finally made her entrance into the world my son I was in labor with for 17hrs and I am now pregnant with my third and went into preterm labor 3wks ago witch the doctors were able to stop the contractions with some meds. And now I have about 10 contractions throughout the day that are just uncomfortable and we're just waiting for something more real to happen. But I do fear of giving birth in the truck on the side of the interstate because unlike my last two babies we don't live 10 minutes from the hospital we now live a little over an hour. :-/
