Kourtney Kardashian Violates Pregnancy Taboo for a Beautiful Cause

by Julie Ryan Evans on April 3, 2012 at 10:44 AM

Kourtney KardashianRemember a couple of weeks ago when we talked about the big, unthinkable thing Kourtney Kardashian did while pregnant -- you know, changing her hair color? While most medical experts say it's safe to do so, there are still a lot of questions/judgement around the issue when women highlight or otherwise color their hair while carrying a child.

Until now Kourtney has been quiet on the matter of her new 'do, but apparently she's been feeling a bit of pressure to explain. So she took to her blog to defend her decision.

She said she researched her decision, spoke to her doctor, and took all the necessary precautions. She said she didn't use a product containing ammonia; she made sure it never touched her scalp; she was in her second trimester; and she was in a well-ventilated room. Check, check, check, and check -- she followed all the suggested guidelines.

Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I take caution in all the products I use all the time, but especially when pregnant.

She shouldn't have to defend her right to highlight her hair, but I'm glad she did. She'll hopefully save some other women who want a little boost of beauty while pregnant from similar scrutiny. Of course, there will always be those who feel the need to judge (as the comments on her blog post prove), but pregnancy is filled with so many things we must avoid and stop doing that are proven harmful, I don't think we need to stop everything that "might" be harmful. If we did, we'd be pretty much be confined to a bubble ... though even then there's the problem with plastic ...

More from The Stir: Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian Doesn't Deserve Scott Disick's Insults

While I did defend her right to highlight her hair in the first place, my only real question was why now. To that, she offers a pretty direct, no-nonsense response:

I haven’t touched my hair color in over 10 years and thought it was time for some fun. Don’t even ask ... why now after 10 years ... I’m just crazy.

More power to her, and her hair ... which looks fabulous, by the way.

Are you glad to see Kourtney Kardashian defend her right to highlight her hair while pregnant? Do you think it's wrong for women to do so while pregnant?

No risk anymore with chemicals they use in most of the products. I was told I could color 12 years ago! It isn't like she bleached her hair, it's just highlights.

Beautiful cause? How is wanting to change your hair color a beautiful cause? Maybe if she dyed it pink for cancer charity or something then yes its a beautiful cause but this was just a dumb*** Kardashian being an image obsessed d-bag.

I dyed my hair while pregnant. I also drank coffee. And painted my nails! Omg... i guess i'm a huge douchebag. Some of these things we're told not to do are ridiculous. I didn't eat sushi or smoke cigarettes (i don't smoke anyhow) or anything that was ACTUALLY going to go INTO my body, and my doctor said a cup or two of coffee was plenty safe. People need to lighten up. There's no PROOF any of these things are ACTUALLY harmful, only that they 'don't know' if chemicals make it into the bloodstream or not.
