Surprise, Charlize Theron Is a Mom!

Charlize TheronGood, albeit unexpected, news out of Hollywood today -- Charlize Theron is now the mother of a baby boy

I know! Exciting and shocking at the same time. It's such a deja vu moment back to when Sandra Bullock -- seemingly out of the blue -- became a mother, after adoptting baby Louis. Not many details are available at this time about Theron's son, though a source told Us that he is African-American and was born in the United States. Her publicist also revealed his name

A statement to People read, "She is the proud mom of a healthy baby boy named Jackson."

What a nice, normal name that is. In fact, popularity may be the only problem with it. However, with a mom like Theron, it's not like this kid is going to need a whole lot to stand out in a crowd.

This is Theron's first child, and she's not married nor has she been in a well-known relationship since her split with Stuart Townsend in 2010. While some may disagree with her choice to go it alone with a child, this is how she's always pictured her family. In 2008 she told W magazine:

I always knew that I didn't want to get married. I've always known that I'd be a mom from the time I was a little girl.

While I think single motherhood has got to be one of the hardest roads anyone can take, I also admire women like Theron and Bullock because they didn't let men -- or lack thereof -- stand in the way of their dreams of motherhood. For all the challenges single motherhood may present, I'm pretty sure it's a lot better than being in a dysfunctional marriage, or dragging children through a divorce.

So good for Theron. I can't wait to hear more about her decision, and, of course, see pictures.

Are you surprised to learn that Charlize Theron has adopted a baby?

Isn't this just wonderful. I'm so happy for her and Jackson. What a blessing a new baby is. Cheers to her.

Very exciting! Although I don't think her being a single mom is the same as millions of moms out there since I'm sure she'll have a live-in nanny to help 24/7 and to come along with her while she works so Jackson can be with her.

Any person rich enough to adopt (and not take a major financial hit like some adoptions) is rich enough to afford round the clock help, like Sandra. So they aren't necessarily going it alone, and are able to provide these children a wonderful future vs the one that may have laid ahead for them. That disclaimer being said, the comment about "not letting the lack there of a man stop them from following their dreams of mothhood" just shows the world that we all live in an instant gratification society, we should always get what we want because being selfish is better than being patient. Being a parent is the hardest job I ever had, but is also. the most rewarding. I am only successful because of my partner. When will people learn that!!!! It takes two, it takes a village, it takes a community. This I am woman BS I can do anything better without a partner needs to stop. Good luck Charlize.

Oh please Jennifer. Take your wet blanket and go home. What a downer. This is 2012!

Wasn't Charlize the one that said in an interview a few years back she thought pregnant women were gross?  No wonder she adopted.

<--adopted our son and we're far from rich. Just saying. Definitely don't have around the clock help, or any help for that matter, aside from evenings and weekends when my husband is home, and the 45 min-hour a day I'm at the gym and he's in the childcare room. That being said, congrats to Charlize Theron!
