A couple of days ago, an uber-pregnant-looking Jessica Simpson stepped out in a pair of stilts many would refer to as platform wedge heels. She looked incredibly cute (and big!) as she teetered her way around Santa Barbara with her fiance, Eric Johnson. Clearly, fashion over function is, and has been, the name of the game for Jessica for the last couple months.
And she's so not alone. Most celebrities, save for, like, Jennifer Garner, continue to rock super-high heels while they're pregnant. And I've never faulted them, as I, too, have been wearing heels -- albeit smaller heels than Jessica's -- throughout my pregnancy. It makes me feel good, less frumpy.
But then last week I fell.
I was crossing a busy street in New York with my husband, who, for some reason, always needs to walk about a foot ahead of me ('nother post), when I sort of twisted my ankle, couldn't regain my balance, and boom, bit it right there in the middle of 10th street. It was embarrassing, as falling often is, but more so, it was really scary.
I laid there in the middle of the street, some asshole behind me laughing and my husband already at the other side, oblivious as to what happened. And I quietly -- rather stoically, I think -- freaked out. I didn't fall anywhere close to my belly, really it was only my hands and knees, but still, the only way I can describe how I felt is ... weird. I hadn't yet felt that vulnerable since I had gotten pregnant, and unless I fall again, I don't think that I will.
When you fall when you're not pregnant, the only issue -- hopefully -- is your pride. When you fall when you are, it brings an entirely new dimension to things. Did I hurt my baby? Is everything okay? Should I tell my doctor? You almost feel like you let your baby down. At least that's kind of how I felt. Because I was wearing heels.
Yes, heels. Not quite as tall as Jessica's, but platform wedges nonetheless. I love them. And they love me. They complete about 90 percent of my outfits, but now, for the next two and half months at least, I may have to retire them. Or at least make my fast-paced husband slow the hell down for the love of God and hold on to my hand.
Did you or do you wear heels when pregnant?

I wore heels my entire pregnancy. The only exception I made is that I wore flats for commuting to and from work (because I was too tired to risk standing for 30 minutes on an NYC subway during rush hour). I'm sorry you fell, but if it's not an issue for Jessica don't hate on her. She probably only walks about 100 feet at any given time, and has security people to catch her when she falls. G-d willing I get pregnant again, I will wear heels for as long as I feel comfortable doing so!
You can fall wearing flats too. I fell when I was pregnant as I slipped on some unnoticed water on my kitchen floor.
She can wear whatever she likes. I wore combats boots my whole pregnancy. Wasn't going to wear sneakers with my uniform. She should of seen the amount of people who tried to get me to wear flats or sneakers. My feet didn't bother me so it shouldn't bother you either. And when I fall I'm always barefoot lol.
I'm currently 2 months pregnant, and I don't plan to wear heels during my pregnancy. I LOVE heels but they do make my feet hurt after a while, and I certainly will have to put up with achey swollen feet later on as it is, so I might as well make myself as comfortable as possible now :-) That and I too am afraid of falling. I'm kind of an extremist when it comes to pregnancy. I have completely sworn off caffeine and fish. I know I can have some in moderation but I just would rather not go there. I'll be swearing off heels too, but I do look forward to rockin' them when I feel more confident in my balance!
OMG SERIOUSLY THIS AGAIN!?!?!?!?!?! ugh!!!! She can wear whateve shoes she wants. You can fall wearning any shoes. Your body and womb are designed to protect baby in such occurance. Chances that anything happening because you fell are slim. Get over the whole heels while pregnant thing PLEASE!!!!!!
I didn't wear shoes like that when I was pregnant but I never wore them when I wasn't. If that's what someone wants to do, it's up to them.
Ok... so YOU fell so JESSICA SIMPSON should stop wearing heels......??? maybe you should just worry about yourself and stop wearing heels yourself......
I'm so stinkin' clumsy and ungainly when I'm pregnant that heels are uncomfortable. Otherwise I love them. I really don't care what other pregnant women choose to wear on their feet. I slipped and fell on our stairs when I wasn't wearing ANY shoes during my first pregnancy. Sometimes crap just happens no matter what you're wearing on your feet.
honestly I can hardly walk in heals not pregnant so it's rare that I wear heals anyway. I have worn them a couple times to church pregnant but that's about it. After baby is born I wear heals even less because I will be carrying baby on my arms.
