Well, Alice and Eden are at it again this Tuesday. Today's CafeMom Studio's Mom-Ed: Childbirth video is all about what happens/what you should do when pushing your baby out. And I'm not gonna lie, it doesn't sound pretty.
I never envisioned my childbirth as being this gorgeous, romantic, beautiful thing. I mean, I'm obviously over-the-moon about what it's going to result in, but I've always, I don't know, assumed it was going to be pretty icky, to put it euphemistically. And after watching this video, well, looks like I'm right. But at least there are a few things I can do to make the experience less ... intense.
I've taken three things away from this video. One, I'm happy to know that I'll know when it's time to push. I wasn't totally clear on that portion of labor. Two, I'm definitely glad to know that I should ease up on the pushing when baby's about to come. Definitely wouldn't have done that. And definitely don't want to (eek!) tear. And three, why does there have to be poop?!!
Ever since I heard that pooping was part of childbirth years ago, I've fixated on it. It's like, we're already going through enough, does there really have to be pooping also? And it's not the doctors I'm concerned with -- I know they see this sort of thing all the time -- it's my husband. By the time our daughter is born, we'll have been together eight years, and you know what? Not once has he seen me poop. Call me old-fashioned, but I'd kind of like to keep it that way.
Looks like I really don't have a choice, though. And I guess with everything going on -- you know, our first child being born -- it won't be a big deal. But I'm definitely going to make sure he only stands by my head. No moseying on down to check things out. That's just not my style.

It was at the very bottom of my give-a-shit list at that point in labor.
1. when its time to push, its TIME TO PUSH. There will be no "easing up". You cant control it, your body will literally push for you. They told me to pant because the doctor wasnt there yet...uh...yeah right.
2. not everyone poops lol but it totally does feel like the baby is coming out your butt the pressure is so intense. the hospital will provide you with Tucks...use them!
3. If you tear you tear, I screamed when I did (I had all natural birth, not by choice though i wanted my epi) I literally tried to close my legs becasue I knew I was about to tear any my baby ended up swallowing some meconium...that was no bueno.
4. soon your little one will be one year old and you will wish you could live this day over and over again metting him/her for the first time. It makes me want to have 25 more.
5. When I was pushing my man and midwife were talking about the movie Forest Gump of all things like they were waiting for me to go pee or someting which made me want to scream.....HELLO....Im giving birth here!!!
6. I had my man videotape the entire thing on his cell phone, which my hospital did not allow, but the phone was small and he acted like he was texting and I am So So SO glad I have that moment on video i have watched it a million times with all the blood and gore and 30 seconds of screaming LOL
Yeah, once I was in labor, the poop issue really ceased to concern me. That said, I had to poop after nearly every contraction for almost two hours prior to even crowning, after a while, there wasn't even any product, I just felt the need to poo! LMAO! So, no poop that didn't land in a toilet in my labor.
I was told by my midwives that some women don't get an urge to push, but they assured me they would tell me when it was time for me to push, and that I should tell them if I did get an urge. Well, I did! And they told me I wasn't ready to push, but I couldnt help it, I HAD to push! LOL!
Oh, and I did tear, in a few places, I had a 7lb 12oz baby naturally, and the tears healed fast and didn't hurt near as much as my hemroids from the pregnancy! LOL!
