Boost Your Baby-Making Power With These All-Natural Items!

cup of teaIf you're trying to get pregnant, you've probably gotten more bizarre advice from more (bizarre) people on how to get the job done than you ever dreamed possible. And you're about to get some more! No, really -- some of this stuff might sound bizarre, but it's really not. Even better, it's a lot more pleasant than eating 20 cloves of raw garlic every day like your husband's great aunt told you to do and a lot less complicated than trying to conceive under the light of the fifth month's first full moon like your husband's other great aunt told you to do.

(You married into a really weird family, by the way.)

Check out this list of 5 all-natural, easy-to-find items that are known to boost fertility!

  1. Royal Jelly. Made by honeybees, royal jelly has been shown to benefit both men and women in the quest to reproduce: It can increase the quality of both sperm and eggs and is used to treat low estrogen and testosterone levels. (Also, it's pretty tasty.)
  2. Chasteberry. Also known as Vitex, this herbal supplement helps to normalize irregular menstrual cycles, making ovulation times easier to predict.
  3. Red Raspberry Leaf. Taken in capsule form or made into tea, red raspberry leaf contains an alkaloid that helps to strengthen and tone the uterine lining. This is a good one to keep up with after you conceive, too, as it's known for preventing miscarriage and postpartum hemorrhage.
  4. Vitamin C. What can't this wonder vitamin do?? Kicks colds, fights the flu, and yup, improves hormone levels in women whose ovaries don't produce enough progesterone.
  5. Damiana. Another herb with hormone-balancing properties for women, damiana has also been used as an aphrodisiac by both men and women -- which can't hurt when you're trying to get pregnant!

Have you tried any all-natural fertility boosters?

Folic acid is another good supplement to try as it is good for preventing miscarriage & birth defects & has a slightly higher chance of twins so definite fertility boost there!

I'm a doctor and just wanted to point out that none of these products have been scientifically shown to increase pregnancy rates. Testimonials are not the same as clinical trials. If you want to get pregnant, first take folic acid (by the time you know you're pregnant, the window when it's most useful may have passed. Second, avoid smoking and lose excess weight as those things reduce pregnancy rates. Third, talk to your own doctor to review any health or medication issues that may affect your situation. Sadly, we see too many women waste money on unproven potions and "therapies" and too few that follow proven advice. If any of these products had good data behind them instead of just testimonials, we would already be recommending them to patients.

To "organic" above: if their results are so good, why doesn't somebody with a chance to profit off these products do the trial, prove their results, and reap the enormous financial windfall that would come with scientific validation? Seriously, if somebody will do the trial and show it works (and is safe), we'll endorse them and they'll sell way more. Still waiting.

if nothing else raseberry leaf tea is just plain good for your female parts anyways, regardless of anything, and losing weight may help however, i was 200+ lbs with both pregnancies, only difference i think was bit more strain on knees/feet, but never made it so i couldn't get pregnant,(many many overweight/obese pregnant people out there) and im now 175 and having heck of time getting baby number 3, ironic

Something that's not exactly natural, but very useful, is PreSeed. It's a really slippery lube that's super sperm-friendly. It took us seven months to conceive our second daughter, and needless to say, we were getting very frustrated. Someone told us about PreSeed, and it worked on the first try. Their website is filled with similar testimonials. Of course, since it's their website you have to take it with a grain of salt, but at $15 a bottle it's a lot cheaper than a visit to the fertility clinic.
