Riddle me this: Republicans recently tried to pass a bill that would cut $868 million from WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), which provides food and education assistance to low-income mothers and kids. This would have included $82.5 million from WIC's breastfeeding assistance program. So ... they weren't going to help moms work through any nursing issues, but they weren't going to pay for the formula moms would need to replace the breast milk, either. How would these babies get fed, exactly?
Oh, I know, I can hear the arguments now: It's not the government's responsibility to take care of these mothers and babies (implication: these greedy welfare mothers and their illegitimate babies). If they couldn't take care of these babies, they shouldn't have had them in the first place. But that doesn't mean they should have gotten abortions! Or taken birth control! Because we don't want to pay for any of that, either.
Meanwhile, male politicians piss away millions covering up their own "illegitimate" children born of sexcapades any female in the public eye would be crucified for.
Yes, moms-to-be, you might as well come to terms with the terrible truth right now: The GOP doesn't care about you or your baby. Not that they cared about you before you got pregnant, as evidenced by their attempts to "redefine" rape and change the legal term for female victims of rape, stalking, and domestic violence from "victim" to "accuser." But now that you've got a little mouth to feed, you're an even bigger bother than ever. Never mind the fact that breastfeeding assistance, which can be crucial to the well-being of both a mother and her child, should already be routinely incorporated into postpartum healthcare.
Do you think the GOP's disregard of women and children is outrageous?
