Baby bump watchers would have expected no less. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon welcomed their twins to the world yesterday -- one little girl followed by one little boy -- and the proud papa took to Twitter to crow about what a wonderful gift he'd just received. But the way Mimi delivered should have the preggos all atwitter.
Lying in an operating room for a C-section, that brought out the couple's daughter first, followed by their son, Carey avoided all those grunting and screaming noises a baby traditionally hears coming out of the birth canal. But she made the first sounds the twins heard even more special. Any guesses? Come on, we're talking Mariah Carey here; it can't be that hard!
Yes, yes, Mariah and Nick played one of her own songs, specifically "We Belong Together" from her Emancipation of Mimi album. The title sounds like an obvious choice, but the song of a girl begging her man to come back is a wee bit strange, no? Take a look at the lyrics:
The feeling that I'm feeling now that I don't hear your voice
Or have your touch and kiss your lips
'cause I don't have a choice
Oh, what I wouldn't give to have you lying by my side
Right here, 'cause baby (We belong together)
OK, so babies have no clue about lyrics. And the sentiment is genuine. The really sweet part of all of this is that the first thing these as yet unnamed (at least in public) children heard was their mom's voice. Specifically their mom's voice when she was HAPPY, singing in a studio rather than cursing at daddy. I daresay this could start a trend; recording your own voice in a less stressful time to be played in the background?
By the way, the twins and mom are happy and healthy. Carey and Cannon's daughter was 5 lbs., 3 oz. (18 inches long), their son a tad bigger at 5 lbs., 6 oz. (19 inches long). Congrats to the adorable family!
Will you be playing anything in the delivery room? Will it be your favorite tunes or family voices?
