2011 looks like it will be the year of the pregnant celebrity. We have had some big "surprises" in recent weeks. Kate Hudson, for instance ... who saw that coming?

Of course, this is far from the first surprising celeb pregnancy. Let's take a little trip down memory lane to some of the more shocking ones.

Anyone remember Jamie Lynn Spears? Or Ashlee Simpson? Here are a few of the most shocking celeb pregnancy announcements:

Nicole Richie: First there was partying with Paris Hilton, then falling out with Paris Hilton, then rehab, then weight fluctuations and accusations of anorexia and drug use. And then, naturally, a baby? To say people were shocked would be an understatement, but the woman not only made it work, she turned it all around. She seems to be a great mom to her two children, recently married Joel Madden (her baby daddy), and seems to be a totally different person than her once best friend. In this case, it was a pleasant surprise, after all.

Britney Spears: She was married and talked of wanting children, so we all saw it coming. But the second one was a shock. She was already on the rocks with Kevin Federline and struggling in her new role as young mama, so it came as quite a shock when she fell pregnant again before her first son was even 4 months old. After a rough, rough few years, she does finally seem to have it together, though. Hopefully, it just keeps improving for Brit. We are always rooting for her!

Jessica Alba: She was on again and off again with Cash Warren, so when she announced her pregnancy two years ago, many thought it wouldn't last. The two have since married and proven their longevity. I guess our judgment was misplaced. Again.

Ashlee Simpson: Of the Simpson sisters, Jessica always seemed the more maternal one. Ashlee is younger and seemingly a little more rebellious. Even so, she came from the Simpson family. Dad's a preacher! Getting pregnant with Pete Wentz without marriage? Long before she turned 30? It was a surprise, to say the least. The two seem to have made it work and are now adorably happy with their son Bronx.

Looking back, it seems there is no doubt that "surprise" doesn't always mean mistake. Let's hope all the new pregnancies also have happy stories.

Who surprised you the most?
