Jewel & Ty Murray Are Pregnant After Struggle With Infertility

Julie Ryan Evans

JewelIt's perfectly clear that Jewel and her husband Ty Murray are thrilled to be pregnant. She's currently in her second trimester, which means a spring or summer baby, and they chose today to announce the happy secret they've been keeping.

"I have some exciting news... Ty and I are expecting!" she posted on her website this morning along with a link to an article in People. In it she discusses how she got the good news on her first day on the job as co-host for the upcoming Bravo show Going Platinum. "I took a pregnancy test and it was positive! It was so hard to keep it a secret. I was worried I'd start throwing up on set and everyone would be like, 'Oh, she's pregnant.'"

But now we can, and what welcome news. Since marrying in 2008 the couple has been trying to get pregnant unsuccessfully. She said part of their efforts included changing the way she works. "I have always been a workaholic, so I had to learn how to slow down and take care of myself in a different way."

She hasn't discussed anything further regarding other assistance they may or may not have used, but whatever they did, worked. As someone who struggled with infertility myself, I always feel some extra elation for couples who face and conquer it and finally get their baby. It's a dark, lonely place when you want something so bad and aren't sure you'll ever get it, so when you finally do, you appreciate it -- or rather, him or her -- that much more.

Imagine how beautiful bedtime will be in their home. Her Lullaby album is one of my favorite all-time collections of lullabies, and I love the thought of her singing it to her very own baby.

Congratulations to the couple!
