Natalie Portman is gorgeous -- she can pull off a shaved head and still be a perfect 10. She's a pretty good actress too -- I loved her in Garden State and Closer. And the word on the street is that she's got it going on in the smarts department too -- Portman graduated from Harvard with a degree in psychology. But it seems like the 29-year-old Black Swan actress might be lacking something in the nurturing mom department: Natalie is pregnant (and recently engaged to Benjamin Millepied, 33).
Under other circumstances, I might be saying, "Yay for her!" But based on everything I've been reading in the news lately, all I can say is, "What the hell was she thinking?"
The petite 5’3" actress got scary skinny for her role as a prima ballerina in Black Swan. She says that director Darren Aronofsky encouraged her to lose as much as she could. “Darren claims he never said this," said Portman, "But he definitely was like, "How thin do you think you can get without being sick?"
That doesn't exactly sound like the healthiest body to be carrying a baby in. But ... big sigh of relief ... Natalie says she stopped dieting and returned to her normal eating habits the day after shooting ended: “I definitely had plenty of pasta and bread and ice cream. And I didn’t work out five hours a day following the training, I can promise you that.”
There's no word on how many months pregnant Natalie is, but she met her fiance, a choreographer and classically trained ballet dancer, during the filming of Black Swan and the couple has supposedly been dating since 2009.
Let's hope she conceived after filming ended and that she keeps up with her healthy lifestyle for the sake of her baby -- and herself. After all, 2011 is going to be a big year for her: wedding, baby, maybe even an Oscar.
Do you think Natalie Portman was too skinny to get pregnant?
