I have a love-hate relationship with horror movies. Love the original Halloween. Zombies? Nope, never, can’t do it -- not even with Cillian Murphy at the helm. Can’t handle the Saw movies, either.
Still, I watch them, especially the really bad ones that come on late at night, you know, the ones you’ve never heard of? Somehow, despite hating most horror flicks (mostly because in the back of my head, I’m always certain they are real), I have seen a lot.
And I’ve come to the conclusion that there are movies certain groups of people should never see. Like me and the zombie movies, there are a few movies that pregnant women should just never ever see -- they might even scare some into never wanting to be pregnant again.
Alien -- If ever there was a movie to make being pregnant horrifying, this is it. Is the alien-in-utero scene the only thing I remember about this movie? Yep. And I completely blame this movie for my inability to put my hand on your stomach to feel your baby kicking.
The Orphan -- A late-night find for me, I had no idea this movie existed until a bout with insomnia. I will never be able to watch this one again. The nightmare scene at the very beginning of the movie is more than enough to scare the crap out of you -- and if that doesn’t, the killer “child” the family adopts will.
Rosemary’s Baby -- You’ve probably already seen it, but if you haven’t, stay faaaaaar away. Drug-induced forced pregnancy resulting in the son of Satan? No thanks.
The Omen -- Sew me shut, if you have to, but I will never give birth on June 6. At 6 a.m. To a child named Damien. One dead priest later and the anti-Christ is hunting his pregnant mother. Even the remake of this movie freaked me out!
Grace -- A mother desires to carry her child to term -- despite the baby being dead. But wait, that’s not the scary part. (I know, right?) Grace then gives birth to her child … who is alive … who just so happens to smell funny and attract flies … and craves blood. I’ll let you figure out how a newborn devil-baby manages to get blood.
Have you seen any scary movies during pregnancy? Or are you avoiding them (especially the ones about pregnancy)?
