In a surprise announcement that's twice as nice, Neil Patrick Harris revealed today via Twitter that he and his long-time partner, David Burtka, are expecting twins.
"So, get this: David and I are expecting twins this fall. We're super excited/nervous/thrilled. Hoping the press can respect our privacy..."
According to E!News the couple used a surrogate, and baby shower plans are already underway.
I'm happy for Harris and Burtka, but must say I find it a bit ironic that someone seeking privacy would make such a personal announcement via Twitter. Regardless, it's happy news.
They were spotted earlier today frolicking at Disney California Adventure, a place I bet they had lots of fun imagining themselves navigating with a double stroller soon!
Burtka is also an actor, who in addition to roles on Broadway has made guest appearances on How I Met Your Mother, CSI, The West Wing and a host of other shows. He also has a role in the upcoming movie A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas with Harris.
Last year, he told New York Magazine that he and Burtka would "make very good parents". And I'm sure they will.
Congratulations to the couple.
Do you think Neil Patrick Harris will make a good father?
