An anesthetist working at an Australian abortion clinic has been charged with infecting dozens of patients with hepatitis C.
On purpose.
So much for "first do no harm."
Many of the women were there for late-term abortions, and the numbers include several women who traveled from New Zealand where abortion is only legal if "two certifying consultants agree that the pregnancy will seriously harm a woman's physical or mental health," and even then isn't used for third-trimester problems.
Croydon Day is the only clinic that will provide this service to women -- often women who have found their fetus has some serious abnormalities -- in the Victoria area.
The numbers of those infected keep increasing with testing on more women, but what remains a mystery is why Dr. James Latham Peters did this.
Hepatitis C attacks the liver and can lead to liver cancer. Unlike hepatitis A and B, there is no vaccine on the market for the disease, although there is treatment.
If Peters is a religious freak trying to make a point, he chose a disease laced with irony -- it's often sexually transmitted and can be passed from an infected pregnant woman to her child during childbirth.
Peters is a widower -- so he could also be angry that he'll have no more babies himself.
Then again, he's got a history of drug abuse. Maybe he's just crazy?

I hope he goes to jail for a long, LONG time.
Wow, that is just unconscionable. Whatever his motives were, I would have to wholly agree that he should be put away for a long time.
Crazy. Although most people who are so anti-abortion that they see harming someone else as an acceptable action, are crazy.
Could care less about his motivation. He should have his license revoked, be sued for all he's worth and then put away for a very long time.
Truly sad. I don't agree with abortion, but I don't think what he did is appropriate in any way! I "Christians" like him wouldn't exist and make it hard on actual Christians who would never do such things. Also, I don't get why someone with such beliefs would ever work at a clinic where abortions are performed! He should have gotten a job elsewhere.
The article said that it was unclear if he had religious motives or not. I would have to argue if he claimed religious motives, that he would be lying.
Anyway, that is sick. He should be put away for murder... there is no cure. I wonder if that could be considered a biological terror attack?
However, it is not any more sick then the doc who sucked a living baby from the womb, regardless if the baby was abnormal or not.
And there you have it... your moral equivalence for the day.
