Ripe MaternityTongues were wagging about the glam purple satin mini-dress in which Alicia Keys debuted her bump at the BET awards. The frock was apparently from Dolce & Gabbana, which puts it firmly out of reach for most of us. But that doesn’t mean you can’t rock her five-month style. Here are a few options to approximate her look -- in more realistic ways, if you ask me.
Ripe Maternity 'Deluxe' Satin Dress ($158 at Nordstrom)
This is the prettiest satin maternity evening dress, even if it's not as daring as Alicia's. The closest it comes to purple is “dahlia,” but it’s still elegant, upscale, and sexy. Plus it’s both maternity and nursing-friendly. What’s not to love?
Alexia ArdmoreAlexia Admore Purple Satin Rosette-Detail Halter Dress ($111.99 at Bluefly)
If you’re feeling as daring as Miss Keys, this young, hotsy-totsy number should work through your second trimester. It’s almost as strapless, the bubble-shape leaves plenty of room for your bump, and ooh la la, it’s short and flirty!
BCBGBCBGMAXAZRIA Silk Jersey V-Neck Dress ($146.05 at 6pm.com)
BCBG is known for skillful approximations of haute styles. Even when you can’t nail exactly where their inspiration flowed from, you can see there was careful planning involved. From the jewel-toned color to the clever draping over the abdomen, this makes for an easy early-pregnancy party dress with as much flair (and a little more class, frankly) than Alicia’s nuder number.
Did you like Alicia’s outfit? If so, would you wear one of these in imitation? Tell us in the comments!
