Ugly Betty star Becki Newton, star of NBC's upcoming anthology comedy Love Bites this fall, is pregnant, causing producers to push the pilot's debut for later in the season. Newton plays a virgin in the first episode, so you can see how this poses a bit of a casting problem.
Replacing the show in the Thursday evening slot: The Apprentice, but the non-celebrity version. This will be the first civilian version of the show since 2007.
This will be the first child for Newton, 31, and husband Chris Diamantopoulos, whom she wed in May 2005.
Cindy Chupack, the award winning Sex and the City producer, is also stepping down from her role in the show for "personal reasons," but will stay on as a writer. According to NBC's website, Love Bites is "a series about love, and all the crazy things it makes us do. Like pretending to be a virgin to get a guy interested. Or competing with your fiancée's favorite bedroom toy. Or actually being in the position to take advantage of the 'celebrity exemption list,' and join the mile high club at the same time."
