UsMagazine.com reports that former Bachelor and Bachelorette star Jen Schefft is having a girl.
Schefft did not find love on the show, but she did marry in 2008 and is now due to have her first child in November.
Congrats to Jen!
Reading this news I have two thoughts:
1.) How does anyone ever NOT find out what they're having?
2.) Girls rock.
When I found out I was having a girl, I was three months pregnant, lying on the table with my first belly ultrasound (the rest had been courtesy the dildo-cam). When I saw her little heart beating and they told me it was a girl, I cried with happiness. I had secretly (and not so secretly) had a very strong preference.
My husband's exact quote: "What am I going to do when she has sex?"
As I explained, we still had a few (hopefully more) years before we had to worry about our then-fetus's sex life, but I got his point. For many men, the news that they are about to become daddies to daughters is frightening, indeed. This is much like the news I got 18 months later, during my second pregnancy, when the ultrasound tech saw a penis on the new baby.
What was I supposed to do with a boy?
Almost four years later, I'm proud to report that both sexes are equally wonderful to parent. If we have a third (and we may), I can safely say I will have no preference because I see the joy so clearly in both.
However, even four years later, I still don't understand my first question. How can anyone not want to know?
Did you want to know? And did you have a preference?

I had to know though I do see the excitement of not knowing. I have twins and they knew one was a boy for sure and I was so happy about that, but then when the doc was looking at the other one, I was thinking in my head GIRL GIRL GIRL, please GIRL. And it was a girl!
Congrats to Jen!
I DO NOT understand how people want to be surprised. And it makes me batty when my friends don't find out. I've made my BFF promise me I get to come to the ultrasound and just me find out. :)
With my first, I was not so shy in saying I wanted a girl. It was a boy. I come from all sisters, my sister has all girls... I didn't know what to do with one! :) Boys are fun! Exhausting, but fun. Then when I was pregnant with #2... I wanted another boy. Mainly because I came from siblings of the same sex...and we have always been so close, and I wanted that for my kids. It was a girl. :) So in the end, I got my girl, and I've realized I know a ton of brother and sister sets that are super close. Just look at Brandon and Brenda. :)
I wanted to be surprised. There are so few real surprises left in life, don't you think? :) It's romantic, exciting, old-fashioned, and it's such a real experience to know the sex of your baby as you're holding him/her vs. seeing that black and white ultrasound pic and wondering what your boy/girl will look like. I have to say that finding out in the delivery room was such an overwhelming joy that it is how I would do it again if I had more children. However, I don't judge anyone who finds out early - virtually everyone I know has found out in advance and it sure makes buying shower gifts easier! ;)
I wish I wanted to be surprised, but there was no way! Congrats to Jen, she seems like she'll be a great mother!
