Flickr photo by meddygarnetI feel bad for poor Mary.
It's always getting dropped.
Look at Tipper Gore. Her real name? Mary Elizabeth.
The same goes for Bo Derek.
Mary Cathleen had the makings of a perfect 10.
Even Farrah Fawcett was born Mary Farrah.
So why does Mary get dropped so often?
It's nothing if not a name with history. My friend named her daughter Mary after her own mother, and it's a classic.
But dating back to Biblical times, it's a name that can carry with it the positive religious undertones -- or the negative, depending on your affiliations.
And then there's the meaning. Mary is Hebrew for bitter. Which seems to sum up all these women's feelings toward it!
Do you know a Mary?
