Jillian Michaels, who had been taking heat for saying that "pregnancy ruins your body," a comment that she says she never said or believes, was interviewed recently about the real reason she won't get pregnant: Endometriosis.
"I learned very early on that I have endometriosis and polycystic ovaries," Michaels said in an interview with Momlogic. "I was always told that fertility would/could be a problem for me."
She explained that the reporter for Women's Health magazine, which featured the interview with the misconstrued comments, started asking her about having kids at the end of a very long three-hour interview.
When asked about whether she wants kids, Michaels just skirted the issue, saying she couldn't handle doing that to her body and that she planned to adopt.
She told Momlogic that in order to have kids, she'd require surgery to treat the endometriosis, and it was in response to that -- not gaining a big pregnant body -- that she made the comment about not "handling doing that to my body."
Endometriosis is a condition of the endometrium, which lines your uterus. In this condition, the lining grows in other places as well, most often onto your fallopian tubes, ovaries, or the tissue lining your pelvis, according to the Mayo Clinic. The result leads to inflammation of the surrounding tissue, cysts, scar tissue, and adhesions, causing pain and also fertility problems.
Polycystic ovaries contain lots of small cysts that make it difficult to get pregnant.
"I don't feel that pregnancy ruins a body at all, and I was really upset that an entire community of women felt hurt by what I allegedly said," she continued in the Momlogic post. "So much has been misconstrued and taken out of context. I do expect that from the media, so I don't really care about that. But what I DO care about is moms. So if moms or women out there feel betrayed at all, that matters to me. Moms are incredibly important to me."

What she is saying about endometriosis is not even accurate. I have several good friends who have had the disease and it IS remedied by the right doctor. It's a complex disease to treat, yes, but she doesn't have to wait for science!
PCOS with two kids here :)
Wow..what jerks the ppl above me are! My mother was diagnosed with Endometriosis when it was first coming into the foreground of medicine. She was so sick by the time they caught it that she had to have everything but her ovaries removed.
It's not funny....and it's so messed up to accuse someone of lying about such a serious issue. You didn't even quote her facebook correctly...because that statement said both remnant issues from childhood AND physical limitations. No one can judge another woman for her reasons not to get pregnant...and shame on those who do. Especially when illness is involved. Read Master Your Metabolism, cause the polycistic issue didn't just come up...it's old news and I really feel for her.
She doesn't want to get pregnant, leave her alone already! It doesn't really matter what other people think.
