Emily Van Do couldn't believe some of the comments she received from friends, coworkers, and strangers when she was pregnant (and carrying 60 extra pounds on her 5' 2" frame). Because stuff like that makes a great book, she started writing them down.

Here are a few gems from Mama Never Told Me: A Diary of Unbelievable Comments and Questions Posted to a Pregnant Woman:

Coworker: "You know, you didn't have a big a** before, but now you do!"

Friend: "You and Karen are due at the same time, but you are so much bigger!"

Mom: "When your sister was pregnant, she didn't carry as big as you."

Kids the next table over at a fast food joint: "Should you be eating that?"

Hairdresser: "Your husband must love those boobs!"

Bus driver: "You really popped over the weekend."

When I was 36 weeks along with my daughter, my husband and I went to a children's botique. There was a middle-aged lady working there and out of everything she could have said to me after asking how far along I was, she asked "When are you getting induced?". She seemed to take the news of our intended homebirth personally, scrunched up her face and said an almost-bitter "Oh" before turning to walk away. My husband and I just looked at each other and laughed.

The women at my church are constantly adjusting my clothes because my bank account can't keep up with my growing body and I'm bursting out of things. It's very insensitive and hurtful. Seriously, I can't help that my breasts are huge and my butt is getting EVEN bigger and I can't afford to buy new clothes every week.

I am currently 28 weeks pregnant and a coworker recently said to me "how does it feel to actually look pregnant now? It is probably better than before when you just looked fatter than usual!"
