Celebrating Mother's Day When You're Pregnant

I didn't feel like a mother my first Mother's Day.

I felt like a weeble, and when I wobbled, I not only fell down, but I couldn't get back up. Ah, such is the life of a pregnant woman.

My due date was less than a month after Mother's Day in 2005, but I was unsure -- do I get to celebrate?

It turns out I'm not the only one who wonders if it's appropriate. In a poll on LilSugar back in 2008, 21% of the moms responding said you have to wait until after the baby's born.

But why? You're doing all the hard work of growing a baby, why shouldn't you get a spa day (I'm thinking pregnancy massage) and a bouquet with a scent that doesn't make you run for the toilet?

Now for the big confession -- my placenta brain is in full effect. I can't remember if we celebrated Mother's Day that year. And neither can my husband!

So apparently I didn't get any fancy jewelry or anything particularly atrocious either.

Will you be celebrating your first Mother's Day this year?
