Photo from Ebony MagazinePaula Patton's a rising star – she was the amazing mentor/teacher Ms. Rain in the Oscar-nommed Precious. Plus, she's a film-school grad who has worked as a producer and documentary-maker. Oh yeah, and she's married to R&B singer Robin Thicke. But what do we really love about her this week? Her big, gorgeous pregnant belly on the cover of the May issue of Ebony magazine.
She actually gave birth to son Julian on April 6, but her pregnancy is memorialized in not one, but two covers. In one, she's demure in a silky yellow dress, cradling her tummy and looking every bit the fertility goddess. In the other, she's draped with nothing but chiffon, baring off not just her bump but her popped-out bellybutton. LOVE it.
Photo from Ebony MagazineOther pregnant celebs have graced the covers of magazines: Halle Berry, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and of course, the original fertile famosita – Demi Moore, who sparked controversy when she appeared naked and pregnant with Scout Willis on the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991.
We just can't get enough of seeing the beauty of pregnancy celebrated. Of course, it'd be nice if I had the benefit of photoshop and personal trainers before taking my baby-bump portraits, but to my mind, great covers like these show that we've come a loooong way from the days when Lucille Ball wasn't even allowed to use the word pregnant on I Love Lucy.
