Amelie: Baby Name of the Day

Friends of ours loved the name Emily, but didn't want a name every other girl had. So they picked a variation: Amelie. It's pronounced just like Emily but starts with a short A sound instead of a long E sound. It's also spelled Emelie, and is considered a variation of Amelia.

In 2008, there were only 781 Amelies on record with the Social Security department.

There are 72 alone on CafeMom, according to our Baby Name Finder.

I couldn't find any famous Amelies, but now I've got the kids book Amelia Bedelia in my head.

Do you know any Amelies or Amelias?
