If you've completed your registry or toured some baby retailers, you've probably figured out that babies are expensive. Save your money for the cute outfits and toys and not things like expensive baby wipes.

With just a few simple ingredients you can make natural baby wipes yourself. There a variety of recipes out there, so you can experiment on the best combination of ingredients before baby comes to find the ones you like best.

Here's one version from that uses olive oil and the wonderful-smelling tea tree oil.

  • 2 TBSP Baby Wash
  • 2 TBSP Olive Oil or 1 TBSP Calendula Oil
  • 2 Drops Tea Tree Oil
  • 2 Cups Water

Mix well in a spray bottle or your wipes box. Spritz on wipe before using if in spray bottle. Swish solution around over wipes if using a wipes box. Tea Tree Oil has lovely disinfectant properties along with its wonderful, clean smell. offers these instructions to make wipes that use a natural baby wash as the base  with the addition of some lavender:

To make your own wipes, mix one fourth cup of almond or olive oil with two cups of distilled water and one fourth cup of baby shampoo (choose a natural brand). To this, add 8 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of tea tree oil (optional).

Now, prepare a roll of paper towels to become baby wipes. First, cut it in half. You now have two short rolls. Remove the cardboard center. Place a short roll in an airtight, waterproof container (you can use an old baby wipe box or a Tupperware container) and pour the solution over the towels. Put the lid back on the box and turn it upside down so the solution is absorbed.

Alternatively, if you use cloth or flannel wipes, keep the solution in a jar or spray bottle and apply as needed.
