Photo by Kevin Winter/GettyNBC announced that it will not be writing Amy Poehler's pregnancy into the TV script for Parks and Recreation, which will be back for another season in the fall. Her baby, the second for the actress and husband Will Arnett, is expected sometime over the summer, when taping typically happens.
According to Buddy TV: "As an alternative, the network will move up the production date for the third season of Parks and Recreation shortly after the second season wraps up in order to stock up on episodes before Poehler takes her maternity leave."
It's not uncommon. Here's a list of other TV actresses who endured weeks of head-on shots, baggy lab coats and empire waist dresses to hide their baby bumps during tapings over the years:
Julia Louis Dreyfus -- Elaine frequently walked into Jerry's living room on Seinfeld wearing oversized blazers and winter coats that she did not take off.
Debra Messing -- The Will & Grace star was ordered off her feet during her eight month of pregnacy and written out of the last few episodes of season 6, including the finale.
Angela Kinsey -- The Jenna Fischer character "Pam" on The Office wasn't pregnant in real life but had a baby on the show; meanwhile, the "Angela" character, and Fischer's close friend in real life, hid behind copiers and other various pieces of office equipment to hide her motherly state.
Sarah Jessica Parker -- You can't be Single in the City and with child -- that just wouldn't do, and it didn't. Producers used crafty camera angles and less form-fitting wardrobe changes to deal with "Carrie's" baby bump.
Jane Leeves -- Daphne on the long-running Frasier starring Kelsey Grammer wasn't pregnant on the show, but she didn't hide her belly, either. Writers worked in a big "weight gain" plot into the show's script, which led to the British maid character going to "fat camp."
