Hey Carly Fiorina, Attacking Another Woman's Marriage Is Sexist Garbage

Carly Fiorina

Perhaps because she senses the end is near, or perhaps simply because she's a sexist liar, Carly Fiorina unleashed a vitriolic diatribe attacking Hillary Clinton -- and her choices as a wife -- at the Republican "undercard" debate Thursday night. With women like her, who needs Donald Trump?

During the debate, Fox moderator Martha MacCallum brought up Fiorina's nasty comments about Hillary from a debate earlier in January, when the Republican hopeful said, "Unlike another woman in this race, I actually love spending time with my husband." And then, pointing at said husband, Fiorina smiled and added, "He's right there."

MacCallum asked why Fiorina had resorted to that "personal attack" on Hillary when previously she said she'd stick to the record. And did Fiorina take the opportunity to choose the high road?

No. She jumped right onto Donald Trump Highway, and went for another sexist jab at Hillary's role as ... a wife.

"I was pointing out the fact that Hillary Clinton will do anything to gain and hang on to power. Anything," Fiorina retorted. "Listen, if my husband did what Bill Clinton did, I would have left him long ago."

What does that have to do with anything, Carly?! What do Hillary Clinton's choices about her personal life, about her MARRIAGE, have to do with her ability to do the job of president? Nothing. That's what.

We all, of course, have our own opinions about what we might do in another woman's shoes. It's totally natural and easy to do -- at home, or when talking to our girlfriends, or even when posting on Facebook. But in the middle of a presidential debate? To stoop to the gutter, where "candidates" like Donald Trump have been crawling around, unleashing sexist crap left and right?

I know it shouldn't surprise or shock me, coming from Carly Fiorina, a woman intent on spreading false and damaging rumors about Planned Parenthood.

In fact, during this same debate, when asked about her earlier claim to have seen a Planned Parenthood video involving baby body parts -- a video that does not exist -- Carly Fiorina doubled down on her lies.

"Here are the facts," Fiorina said in the debate. "Planned Parenthood engages in partial birth abortion, in late-term abortion. They alter those abortion techniques to harvest and sell body parts." (She said this despite the fact that just this week, a grand jury not only found no evidence that Planned Parenthood sells fetal tissue, but indicted the makers of the videos that claimed they did.)

None of this should be a surprise coming from Fiorina. But, still,  somehow, when this sexist and hateful misinformation comes from another woman, it's much worse than when Trump spouts his latest woman-hating rhetoric.

Clearly, Fiorina has decided that an unhinged, full-on attack on Hillary Clinton is going to be her last-ditch attempt to stay relevant to this campaign. She went on from her cringe-inducing remark about Hillary's choices as a wife to claim that Hillary belongs in "the Big House" (get it? As opposed to the White House?), and them rambled on about how Hillary's never accomplished anything in her life.

Thankfully for women everywhere, the end of Fiorina's campaign trail is in sight.
