Here's What We Learned in School: Michelle Obama Wants #62MillionGirls to Have That Chance Too

michelle obama 62 million girlsFirst Lady Michelle Obama launched "62 Million Girls," a campaign aimed at breaking down the social and economic barriers that prevent young women from receiving an education. The mom of two teen daughters is asking people to share a photo of themselves along with the answer to this: What did I learn in school?

While this question is pretty thought-provoking, its answers are, sadly, something most of us take for granted. Speaking at the 2015 Global Citizen Festival, the FLOTUS pointed out that right now 62 million girls worldwide are not going to school. No matter how big your graduating class was, 62 million is a staggering figure.

In her travels, the First Lady has spoken to these young women whom she describes as bright and determined, and she says she cannot ignore their plight. The social media campaign is just one part of the Let Girls Learn initiative the Obamas announced earlier this year.

Hopefully, by raising awareness, and calling for practical, government-wide changes that afford each girl the opportunity to learn, that figure will shrink down to zero.

"When girls aren’t given the chance to realize their potential, the whole world loses out," Obama said. Amen!

Inspired by the First Lady's initiative, The Stir's staffers shared the invaluable lessons they've learned thanks to education:
