Monica Lewinsky Refuses to Be Shamed by Bill Clinton Affair Anymore

Monica LewinskyMonica Lewinsky was one of the first to be mass shamed by the Internet. Her "affair" with President Clinton was huge news, of course. It led to his impeachment by the House of Representatives. But can you imagine what it would be like now? At least she didn't have to deal with Twitter! Now 40 years old (OMG! Time flies!), Lewinsky is speaking out about the sex scandal for the first time in many years. What she has to say is pretty shocking.

Lewinsky wrote in Vanity Fair:

It’s time to burn the beret and bury the blue dress. I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened.

Lewinsky says that despite the fact that she had a boss who "took advantage of me," the affair was "consensual." She writes:

Sure, my boss took advantage of me, but I will always remain firm on this point: it was a consensual relationship. Any 'abuse' came in the aftermath, when I was made a scapegoat in order to protect his powerful position.

Well, at least Monica is taking responsibility for what happened. Granted, she was only 21 when it all went down (so to speak), but still, she obviously set her beret for the prez and went out of her way to make it happen. NOT to excuse him, of course. He was married; a lot older than her; and should have, as president, had the brains to just say no to the cute intern all too willing to get on her knees in the Oval Office.

Lewinsky also conducted herself with decorum after the scandal. She didn't get plastic surgery and pose for Playboy. She didn't try to become a star. Nowadays, girls like her appear on reality TV or make pornos "sex tapes." She did none of that. In fact, she says she turned down offers that would have earned her $10 million -- despite the fact that she couldn't find a job due to her infamy.

So let's give her some credit. Hey, even Hillary seems to have forgiven her.

She now wants to get involved in efforts to help others who are being bullied and victimized online. Since her scandal happened so many years ago, her bullying fake Twitter account only has 25 followers. Others are not so lucky.

What do you think of Monica?
