Clippers Owner Donald Sterling Punished for Life for Racist Comments (VIDEO)

Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life from the NBA and fined the maximum amount of $2.5 million for racist comments he made to his girlfriend. Sterling's girlfriend, V. Stiviano, recorded Sterling on a long rant saying how he didn't want her putting any black people -- including Magic Johnson -- on her Instagram account nor bringing them to Clippers games. The sickening audiotape, which was verified by the NBA, was then leaked to TMZ Sports.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced the punishment this morning. So Sterling will be in the humiliating but deserved position of not being able to attend the games or practices of the team he owns. He will not be able to be a part of operations of the team either.

Additionally, Silver says he is going to "do everything in [his] power" to get Sterling to sell the team.

The $2.5 million fine will be put toward "anti-discrimination and tolerance efforts."

You think we live in a post-racial world, with African-Americans in some of the highest positions in politics, sports, and entertainment, and then you hear a rant like Sterling's and realize that some people still live in the Jim Crow era. And here Sterling had a team full of African-Americans. It's so mind-blowingly awful that many are wondering if the 80-year-old Sterling is suffering from dementia.

However, Sterling has a history of this sort of thing. He was sued once for discrimination (but he won the case). Additionally, he has paid huge fines for refusing to rent apartments to African-Americans. It's pretty clear where he stands -- despite having a mixed-race girlfriend.

Sterling's arrogance and racism not only got him into this mess -- but his extremely poor judgment did too. Here was a man who seemed to think he could trust a much, much younger woman who is commonly known to seduce rich older men. He probably imagined she truly loved him. No fool like an old fool. A racist old fool.

Do you think the punishment was fair?
