Wendy Davis Boasts That Paraplegic Opponent 'Hasn't Walked' in Her Shoes

Oh Wendy Davis, the gift that keeps on giving. Was it really just last summer when she was being touted as the epitome of feminism? Remember when she filibustered for hours on the Texas statehouse floor to ban a bill that would’ve limited abortion to the first five months of a pregnancy, and demanded that doctors give their patients a phone number to follow up with if there were any complications? Hero!

Anyway, Davis capitalized on her insta-fame by tossing her hat in the ring for Texas governor. She’s likely to square off with state Attorney General Greg Abbott next November, as Governor Rick Perry finally steps down after eleventy-jillion terms (OK, it was three and a half … but still, that’s a lot. An entire generation of Texans has never known a non-Rick Perry Texas).

Anyway, Wendy Davis and Greg Abbott are far and away the favorites for the general election in November. And with the way Wendy has been handling herself recently, it’s not even going to be a question of red-state politics that lands Abbott in the Governor’s Mansion.

In retaliation to a recent expose about Davis’ embellishments on her accomplishments as a single mom living the hard-knock life, the state senator lashed out at Greg Abbott’s campaign for their smear tactics.

“We’re not surprised by Greg Abbott’s campaign attacks on the personal story of my life as a single mother who worked hard to get ahead,” Davis said in a statement. “I am proud of where I came from, and I am proud of what I’ve been able to achieve through hard work and perseverance. And I guarantee you that anyone who tries to say otherwise hasn’t walked a day in my shoes.”

Gaffe alert! Greg Abbott is confined to a wheelchair, and has been since an accident when he was 26. A tree fell on him while he was jogging, just in case you were wondering. This is now my new excuse to not jog. Sorry, didn’t mean to make light of his accident. I just really like excuses not to exercise.

Her personal story, by the way, includes lying about being a divorced teen mom (she was 21, not 19, as she claimed), and then marrying someone that agreed to pay her way through Harvard Law, not to mention the last two years of her undergrad. She filed for divorce right after the last payment was made, and ex-husband retained custody not only of their shared daughter, but also Davis’ from her first marriage.  Well ok then. I don’t necessarily want to be one to judge, but it ain’t lookin’ good for Wendy.

But wait! There’s more! A progressive group promoting female Democratic candidates called Annie’s List insulted Abbott for “running scared.”

Just stop, you guys. No don’t stop. This is so ridiculous it’s good. Has gaffe-master Joe Bidden endorsed yet? Because that would be awesome.

Do you think Wendy Davis has a chance for a comeback?
