Republicans Are Racist, Closed-Minded & Old-Fashioned According to ... Young Republicans

mitch mcconnellIt's one thing for Democrats to be blowing the whistle on Republicans' "racist," "old-fashioned" politics, but you know it's time for a makeover when members of your own party are fed up! It's been a long time coming, but finally, young conservatives are speaking out about how the party is seen -- and it's not pretty.

A 95-page report by college Republicans, based on a pair of 800-subject surveys and six ethnically and economically diverse focus groups, describes a "dismal present situation" for the GOP. Those surveyed called the party "closed-minded, racist, rigid," and "old-fashioned." And that's just the tip of the damning iceberg!

The report also found that Latinos "tend to think the GOP couldn’t care less about them," and "so long as the issue of gay marriage remains on the table," the party is DOOMED. And while one could argue that the party hasn't exactly been strong on diversity or social issues that matter to Americans for years, it sounds like young conservatives are even disillusioned with the way the party has been handling jobs and taxes. The report notes:

We’ve become the party that will pat you on your back when you make it, but won’t offer you a hand to help you get there.

Oooh, burn!

But there's gotta be something good in the report, right? Sort of. People apparently saw Republicans as "strong on defense," they "did not always mean that as a positive." Ha.

Well, anyone who hasn't been living under a rock could have told you all of this. But it's kind of incredible to see that Republicans themselves are saying it. Maybe that means we are one step closer to seeing the Party of No become something else entirely? Or at least slightly more open-minded and interested in governing a more diverse population in a 21st century way? After all, the report warns they won't be able to take the youth vote until they do "significant work to repair the damage done to the Republican brand among this age group over the last decade." Hear, hear.

Do you agree that the Republican party has lost its way and needs a makeover?
