New Obama Ad Compares Voting to Virginity: Offensive or Adorable? (VIDEO)

lena dunham in your first time adI'm pretty darn sure the gulf between Democrats and Republicans can't get any wider than it is today. A day when both sides are debating not just who will be our president for the next four years but a political ad for Barack Obama featuring HBO Girls' creator and star Lena Dunham. Who knew something so short, simple, and powerful could be so ... POLARIZING?!

Liberals have watched it and said, "OMG, what a cute, sincere, and utterly charming ad! Love!" while conservatives' reaction can be summed up by Fox News reporter Monica Crowley (best known for her homophobic tweet about Sandra Fluke), who tweeted, "1 of the many sick things about this degrading Lena Dunham 'lose your virginity to Barack' ad? The Left thinks it's 'empowering' to women."

Damn straight we do! Here's the ad if you haven't seen it yet ...

Do conservatives like Crowley have absolutely NO sense of humor? Oh, never mind, I guess they do when it comes to deriding another outspoken young woman who's standing up for reproductive rights by insinuating that she might be engaged to a woman. Or, if you're Ann Coulter, when it comes to calling the President of the United States the R-word. But a cutesy comparison between voting for the first time and having sex for the first time is apparently "downright weird" (according to Terry Moran) and "repulsive" (says Laura Ingraham)? Ooookay.

But never mind the uptight school marm-ish complaints. They're also belittling it for acknowledging that our reproductive rights are at stake in this election. For instance, Michelle Malkin wrote in response, "Liberal ladies and Obama strategists. Get your heads out of your lady parts!" Note to Michelle and other women who don't mind government getting in bed with us: Lena makes the case for President Obama about more than reproductive rights -- mentioning the war in Iraq and the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. But if you're still insisting that we have our "heads up our lady parts," as you so eloquently put it, we wouldn't have to if Republican politicians weren't running on platforms that threaten to regulate our lady parts and reproductive freedoms and disempower us when it comes to rape and other forms of sexual violence!

In other words, the left never intended to make this election about reproductive rights. But now, female voters, inundated by the backasswards commentary about abortion and rape from the right, have no choice but to consider these issues when they head to the polls. So, for Dunham and Camp Obama to make an adorable tongue-in-cheek analogy between virginity and voting is perfectly fitting. Like it or not, sex is not only a integral part of our lives, but a major part our current political dialogue. It's high time the right quit their complaining and just used to it.

What do you think of Lena Dunham's Obama ad?
