Suspect Arrested for Jessica Ridgeway's Murder & He's a Teenager (VIDEO)

austin reed siggA second major break has been made in the case of Jessica Ridgeway, the 10-year-old girl who was killed this month. Police have arrested a 17-year-old Austin Reed Sigg for the Colorado girl's abduction and death and for an attempted abduction of a 22-year-old runner. He has been charged with first degree murder, one count of second degree kidnapping, and two counts of criminal attempts.

Some sources are saying Sigg was turned in by his mother, who told the AP, "I made the phone call, and he turned himself in. That's all I have to say." Then she began crying before hanging up the phone. Sigg was a student at Arapaho Community College and lives five miles away from Jessica's home.

Austin Sigg's first court appearance will be tomorrow (Thursday) at 8:00 a.m. Police Chief Lee Birk says that the Ridgeway family has been notified of the arrest. "We hope and pray that this arrest brings them some measure of closure in dealing with this horrible tragedy and enormous loss that they've suffered," he said in today's press conference.

This is the third arrest of a teenager for murder this week. Yesterday two boys were arrested for the murder of Autumn Pasquale, and today a 19-year-old was arrested for the murder of a mother and two toddlers in Sacramento.

I'm sure residents of Westminster, Colorado feel a little safer now that an arrest has been made, as Birk suggests. Now the community and the family can focus on healing.
