Farmer Eaten by Hogs Raises Lots of Scary Questions

hogTerry Vance Garner, a 69-year-old farmer, was tragically killed recently when he collapsed in his hog pen, and was -- I don't know how to put the eloquently -- eaten by the hogs. An unidentified family member made the discovery after they went to check on Garner, who'd said he was going to feed the hogs, but had been gone for hours. First, he found his dentures lying on the ground and, then, well, the rest of him scattered throughout the pen.

I don't know about you, but I'm having trouble coming up with a worse way to die.

This poor man was a Vietnam vet, who according to his brother, suffered post-traumatic stress disorder, and supposedly, "these animals were his life." His brother said: "When he moved to that farm, it turned out to be a real life-saver for him." He then told a story about how, on one occasion, one of the large sows bit Garner because he accidentally stepped on a piglet. Garner vowed to put the sow down, but when the time came, he just couldn't do it.

Awful. Terrible. Tragic. I mean, not only does this sound like a really violent way to die, how awful that these were the things that gave Garner so much joy in life? A tragedy in the truest sense of the word. And, also, not to be crass here, but I think people in the area may want to refrain from eating pork for a while, because, well, you know.

Hope Garner's friends and family are doing okay. What a sad hand to be dealt.

What do you think of this?
