Priest Drops Dead in the Middle of Wedding Ceremony -- Worst Omen Ever?

wedding altarThere are bad omens, and then there are bad omens. During a wedding ceremony in Germany, a Roman Catholic priest dropped dead at the altar. Grzegorz Wieczorek, 47, was in the middle of a prayer, before the vows, when he collapsed and hit the stone floor; it's believed that the Polish priest suffered a heart attack.

There you are, just trying to tie the knot in front of your friends, your family, and God, then boom: priest dies. What do you do? Well, if you're this couple, you decide that the show must go on.

With 100 guests in tow, the bride and the groom finished what they started a few hours later with a different priest in a different church.

I mean, I guess that's what I would've done. You've got people who travelled far and wide to see you get married, not to mention the fact that it's the day you've been waiting for your whole life ... what are you supposed to do? Turn your wedding day into a funeral? Postpone the event a few days, a month, a year?

I'm not an especially religious person, but I'd be freaked the fuck out if my priest dropped dead before he got to the part in the sermon about the "I do"s. Is it a message from above? Is it a message from below? Am I making the right decision? Is this really the way I want to kick off married life ... with a dead priest at my feet?

I can't imagine the tone it set for the rest of the couple's big day. I hope they were able to celebrate, but man, that's gotta be hard when you've just had a man of God drop dead right in front of you.

Here honey! Have a piece of cake! PS: Remember that time our priest died? Yeesh. That was awful.

My heart goes out the bride and groom (and, obviously, the priest's family).

What would you have done if this had happened to you?
