Colorado Springs Wildfire Devours Homes Like You've Never Seen (VIDEO)

waldo canyon fire

Colorado Springs is engulfed in smoke and flames. What started out as a forest fire in Waldo Canyon has grown to consume the neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city. Overnight the fire doubled in size to 24 square miles. Meanwhile, 32,000 people have had to evacuate.

The images are terrifying. Some have compared the smoke pillars to Armageddon. And thunderstorms and winds forecast for today are expected to only make things worse. This is a devastating fire both for the national forest and for the people of Colorado Springs. But the sight is so captivating, residents can't help filming some of it to share with us all.

This is a time lapse video of the fire in Waldo Canyon on Sunday.

Compare that with how the fire looked yesterday afternoon around 4:35 p.m. What a dramatic difference.

Here's a slideshow of images from Fox News in Colorado showing the fires overtaking a residential neighborhood. Imagine if one of these houses were yours.

What looks like a dark, summer thunderstorm cloud is actually smoke from the fires yesterday evening.

Our hearts go out to the people of Colorado Springs. Please stay safe, everyone. Colorado is my home state so it's especially painful to see this horrific fire. Thankfully I don't have family living in that area. The Denver Post has compiled a list of ways you can assist victims and evacuees of the fire.

Do you have friends or family in the area? Have you ever been near a fire this size?
