'Goodnight Moon Colony' Means the Newt Gingrich Nightmare Is Over at Last

newt gingrichSo long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good night!

See ya never, Newt Gingrich, and don't let the door smack you on your way out.

If you're like me, you've already blocked out the reality of Gingrich's presidential campaign ever happening -- but it's worth remembering for just another moment, and that moment is called "Goodnight Moon Colony."

Yup, just like the classic bedtime book with the (kinda trippy, let's be honest here) illustrations, Goodnight Moon ... except better, because this one is from the brilliant minds at Comedy Central, and it's a "storybook farewell to Newt Gingrich's campaign, which we'll always remember for its nuanced policy positions and bold vision of ... ah, screw it. We'll remember the moon colony thing."

Ah yes. The moon colony thing. Who can forget?

Who can forget that a man who was legitimately running for president believed there would be a permanent base on the moon by the end of his second term ... and wanted to colonize the moon to the point where it could eventually "petition to become a state" ... and seemed certain that some sort of commuter flight system to Mars could be in place in the very near future?

Oh well. At least we have this very funny, very clever parody to help us look back with laughter. (My favorite lines? "Goodnight, dirty unwashed Occupy Wall Street protesters" and "Goodnight, bankrupt health care think tank.")

Sweet dreams!

How would you say goodnight to Newt Gingrich?
