President Obama Weighs in on Hilary Rosen Comments

CNNPresident Obama is addressing Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen's claims that stay-at-home-mom Ann Romney "never worked a day in her life."

“There's no tougher job than being a mom," Mr. Obama said during an interview with Cedar Rapids, Iowa affiliate KCRG. “Anybody who would argue otherwise, I think, probably needs to rethink their statement."

Rosen made the statement during an interview last night on Anderson Cooper 360. She later apologized, but not before twisting the knife with a Tweet to Ann.

She wrote: "@AnnDRomneyPlease know, I admire you. But your husband shouldn't say you are his expert on women and the economy. #HeNeedsMore"

Wow. I'm no Republican, but I would think that with the amount of time Ann Romney has spent talking and listening to women both as First Lady of Massachussetts and on the campaign trail with her husband, she knows quite a bit about women and the economy.

Many Democrats have since agreed that Rosen's remarks were out of line and both the White House and the Obama campaign are distancing themselves from her comments. Meanwhile, President Obama went on to say this about the matter:

“I don’t have a lot of patience for commentary about the spouses of political candidates. My general view is those of us who are in the public life, we’re fair game. Our families are civilians."

“I haven’t met Mrs. Romney, but she seems like a very nice woman who is supportive of her family and supportive of her husband," he went on to say. "I don’t know if she necessarily volunteered for this job so, you know, we don’t need to be directing comments at them."

His remarks come on the heels of a tweet from Michelle Obama, which said, "Every mother works hard, and every woman deserves to be respected."

I have to say, I agree.
