Sarah Palin's 'Victory' Over Katie Couric Is Nothing to Brag About (VIDEO)

sarah palinIs anybody really surprised that Sarah Palin beat Katie Couric when the two went up against each other Tuesday in a battle of the morning show hosts? I mean, honestly, who's shocked that Americans opted to tune in to a woman who just had Julianne Moore play/mock her in a movie; a woman who's a complete wild card; a woman who, if there's any truth to said Julianne Moore movie, thinks the Vice President's last name is "O'Biden," as opposed to a well-respected, veteran news anchor? The fact that there's an entire network centered around "real housewives" should be proof positive that of course we're going to tune into the former! We're a low-brow kind of folk.

Regardless, Sarah's ecstatic over the whole thing and she just can't help but brag about her victory. You know, like every professional morning host does.

After learning that she and the Today show beat Katie Couric and Good Morning America (5.497 million viewers to 5.141 million), Palin fired off an email to Zap2it, saying:

And, frankly, I'm ecstatic we beat the 'perky one,' although I wouldn't have gone up against ABC's vacationing Robin Roberts, because she's such a good egg. By the way, both Robin and Matt Lauer have traveled the long journey to Alaska and dealt with unglamorous, rugged conditions to see more of our world; they've shown respect for a more unconventional Americana lifestyle, and we appreciate that.

The "perky one" of course refers to Katie Couric, and the rest of the quote -- well, it just seems like a dig to Katie Couric.

Sarah obviously has issues with Couric after "the infamous interview." Not necessarily warranted, but completely understandable. Despite being the architect of her own demise, Palin feels animosity towards Couric (the woman who "brought her down"), and she wants to beat her at her own game. But what Palin needs to realize is -- before she gets too cocky -- is that people were most likely tuning in to her because she was a novelty. She was a "celebrity guest," if you will. Some people may like Palin more than Couric, but I don't think they necessarily feel she's more credible than her, or that she has "better information." Both the people who like Palin and don't were tuning in to see what happened.

So, I think Sarah should reign it in a bit. Show some class. I don't think these numbers reflect the true ratings, if this were to become a regular thing. And I really don't think that if it were the other way around, Couric would be emailing Zap2it to brag.
