Amazing Military Mom Sends Quilts to Troops & You Can Too!

military blanketsIn the last four years, JoAnne Camara has seen her son Thomas off on three deployments. And this last time around, when he was deployed to Afghanistan for the second time, she wanted to do something special for him. So she sent him a quilt.

JoAnne didn't just send Thomas any old quilt, though. She sent him what's called a Camo Quilt -- a blanket made from the same materials as military uniforms, so he can bring it outside with him and strap it to the outside of his bag, should he so choose. And, as you might suspect from the fact that I'm writing about this, her generosity didn't stop there. See, JoAnne was so impressed with these Camo Quilts that she found, she managed to send 51 additional ones to soldiers she didn't even know -- at no cost whatsoever.

Camara hooked up with Camo Quilt Project organizer Linda Wieck, and the company agreed to send the additional quilts to soldiers in Afghanistan for free. The only thing Camara had to pay for was postage. So, in an effort to pay it forward, Camara went on a mission to raise awareness -- and funds -- for the Camo Quilt Project.

In the past month and a half, Camara has distributed fliers and sent out emails to friends, family, and community members about CQP. So far, she's raised more than $3,370, which in quilt speak, is about 135 blankets.

Obviously, most of us can't understand what it's like to, you know, be at war. But I imagine that receiving something as personal and comforting as a quilt has to be one of the best feelings in the world for those who do. Nice work, JoAnne.

Anyone interested in helping Camara and the Camo Quilt Project is welcome to send donations. Checks should be made payable to Franklin Legion Post #387 and mailed to:
