NASA Releases 'Most Amazing' Photo of Earth Ever (PHOTO)

blue marbleHi Earthlings! Pretty cool news today -- NASA released what they're saying is the highest-res photo of Earth to date, and wow, is it a sight to behold. The image, which NASA is calling "the most amazing, high definition image of Earth ever," is a composite of several photos taken by newly launched satellite, Suomi NPP, on January 4, 2012. Geeks out there will recognize this photo as another "Blue Marble" picture that shows, this time, the U.S. The first in the Blue Marble series was shot in 1972, and some followed in 2002 and 2010.

But this one, this one with its bright colors, swirling white cloud patterns, and the enticing waters of the Gulf of Mexico, puts those other Blue Marbles to shame.

It's a breathtaking photo, one that I'm sure will pop up on desktops and phone homescreens all over the place. You know, I can't really imagine the image getting any clearer, but I'm sure they said that back in 1972, too. Who knows what the next Blue Marble photo will bring, but for now, sit back, relax, and say hello to your planet Earth.
