Ron Paul Won't Win Over This Wackadoo Celebrity Endorsement

ron paulWhy is Ron Paul still a hot news item? He's not going to make the nomination, and he's not going to be our next President. It must be because he lets fly all sorts of flabbergasting statement and sometimes he even makes a lot of sense -- to both conservatives and liberals. He doesn't do spin and he's a straight-talker. Is that we can't stop talking about him, even though he hasn't got a gnat's chance in a bat cave of getting elected?

Well, now he's gotten his biggest celebrity endorsement of the month: American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson declared her political crush on Paul today via Twitter. "I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.” No he will not! And alas for Paul, Clarkson's endorsement is not going to help.

Why not? Because the poor woman has no idea what the hell is going on with Ron Paul's campaign! All the controversy over those racist/homophobic newsletters attributed to him -- she totally missed it all. When Clarkson's fans brought it up she quickly backpedaled. “I have never heard that he’s a racist?" She wrote. "I have never seen or heard Ron Paul say anything against gay people?” Huh? What y'all talking about?!? Hm, Kelly Clarkson: Not the next Megyn Kelly.

Oh I know -- Ron Paul denies he wrote those newsletters, bla bla bla. The point is, Kelly's endorsement of him is about as useful as any airhead's endorsement. But it's totally consistent with the free-wheeling spirit of his campaign. Folks love the quirky personality and the ideal of less government/more personal freedom. His political views put him all over the ideological spectrum, appealing to and offending both liberals and social conservatives. Regardless, we just love talking about him.

And hey, looks like he may even win in Iowa. Weirder things have happened! And that will be great. Because ever since Herman Cain suspended his campaign I have been bored, bored, bored. Oh don't get me wrong, this is not an endorsement of Ron Paul's campaign by any means. It's an endorsement of Ron Paul staying in the news. Why? Because he's fun. And I'll take all the help I can get in paying attention to this race.

Are you paying attention to Ron Paul's campaign? Do you think he stands a chance?
