Michelle Obama Agrees to Marine Ball, Proving She’s the Coolest FLOTUS in History

michelle obamaOne of the biggest trends we saw this year was celebrities attending Marine Corps Balls with, well, Marines. We watched as Justin Timberlake, Mila Kunis, and Kristin Cavallari linked arms with some of the fine men and women of the military -- and looked damn good doing it. But the latest celebrity invite to a Marine Corps Ball shows that not everyone is pining after Hollywood's hot young things.

Twenty-year-old Marine Lance Corporal Aaron Leeks from Maryland had the cojones to ask Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States -- Barack Obama's wife -- to next year's ball. "With your husband's permission, of course," Leeks added.

And you know what? Keeping up with this wild Marine Ball trend, she said yes.

Actually, she said, "I'd love to." Press Secretary Jay Carney couldn't confirm or deny Mrs. Obama's attendance, but he said, "The first lady's commitment to military families is very strong indeed. So I'm sure she was flattered by the invitation." Sounds like she's going, if you ask me.

So many things here. First of all, I've really gotta hand it to Leeks for asking Michelle Obama to be his date. I mean, Mila Kunis and JT are one thing, but the First Lady is a whole 'nother beast. Second of all, how cool is she for saying yes? I mean, sure, it would have been pretty jank of her to say no, but the FLOTUS has a history of supporting the military, so I'm sure she's actually pretty jazzed about the whole thing. Third of all, how much of a bitch is security going to be that night?

Remember when Mrs. Obama tried to make a simple run to Target? It was mayhem. The Secret Service had to get there a half hour before her and she had to do all of her (incognito) shopping with an assistant -- and that was just to pick up things like paper towels and shampoo (I assume). Imagine what it's going to be like when she's all gussied up, posing for photos with another man?

For whatever hassle it causes, though, I think it's radical. I'm glad that Michelle Obama agreed to attend -- and I'm glad she was Aaron Leeks' dream date. Classy choice.

How cool is this?
