Walmart Shopper Who Pepper-Sprayed Crowd Is Definitely Guilty of a Crime

walmartAm I the only one who's completely confused by the case of the crazed pepper spray-wielding Walmart customer? Apparently Los Angeles police still haven't decided whether or not to charge the woman accused of spritzing a crowd of fellow shoppers on Black Friday Eve. This seems odd, no? It's not like they don't know if she really did it or not -- the night after she injured about 20 innocent bystanders, some of whom were children, the woman turned herself in to the police. So what's the hold-up?

Some are speculating that the woman had a different motive for pepper spraying the People of Walmart than what was originally reported, which would potentially change the nature of her crime. I guess that's a good thing, because when we thought this lady's Occupy Wall Street moment was all in the name of snagging an XBox 360 before anybody else ... well, that was a really depressing thought.

Unfortunately, the new possible motive is pretty depressing too, just in a different way.

Here's what some people are wondering: Was it panic that made the woman whip out her pepper spray? Not a what-if-I-don't-get-an-XBox kind of panic attack; more of a claustrophobic, these-crazy-people-are-gonna-trample-me sort of thing.

I wouldn't be too surprised if that turned out to be the case. It seems like as a society, we're becoming more and more terrified of crowds. And clearly pepper spray has become the go-to crowd repellant. I'm just not sure why. Is it a control thing? Crowds are unpredictable, symbolic of revolt and chaos. Maybe we're beginning to see crowds as an unsettling reminder of the fact that our country is on the verge of what could very well turn into a modern day version of the French Revolution. (Which could turn out to be a good thing. Just sayin'.)

Or maybe the woman from Walmart is just insane.

Either way, I do feel like she should face some sort of consequences for her actions. Nuts or not, she could have seriously hurt a whole bunch of people.

Why do you think the woman in Walmart pepper sprayed a crowd of shoppers?
