Jerry Sandusky 'Rock Center' Interview Only Makes Him Look Worse

Jerry Sandusky interviewJust when you thought the Jerry Sandusky case couldn't get any more disgusting, depraved, and wrong, it does just that. As more allegations were piling up against the one-time Penn State football coach, he made his first extended public remarks in a phone interview with Bob Costas that was broadcast Monday night on Rock Center. His remarks did nothing to help his case.

Sandusky said he was innocent, but admitted: “I shouldn't have showered with those kids.”

You think? With 10 more people coming forward to say they were abused by Sandusky, his claims of not being a pedophile seem more and more far-fetched. In his interview, he said:

I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact. I enjoy being around children. I enjoy their enthusiasm. I just have a good time with them.

Even typing the words makes me cringe. Costas didn't let Sandusky off the hook, telling him: "It seems that if all of these accusations are false, you are the unluckiest and most persecuted man that any of us has ever heard about." Read: You are a lying sack of garbage, but it would break my journalistic code to say so, so I will just sit here looking as flabbergasted as the rest of the country as you deny what is so obvious to all.

The amount of evidence against him includes two eyewitness accounts from people who walked in on him sodomizing and engaging in oral sex, multiple accusations (including 10 new ones, which have just emerged in the past few days), and his own bizarre words to a mother of one of his accusers: "I wish I were dead."

Yes, in our country we believe in "innocent until proven guilty," but it's awfully hard to believe that all of these people were lying about Sandusky's actions. It's possible. But it's so unbelievably unlikely.

Even hearing Sandusky's voice makes the bile in my throat rise. How Costas was able to conduct an interview is a mystery. If Sandusky survives long enough to go to trial, it will be a miracle. He may have just unseated Casey Anthony as the most hated person in the United States today.
