Amanda Knox's Lover Needs to Cut Her Loose

and her ex boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. After being imprisoned for four years for the murder of Meredith Kercher, they are both free to enjoy warm, bountiful meals with their respective families come November 24. If you forget the fact that they, you know, essentially lost the past four years of their lives, things are looking pretty good for them.

Raffaele Sollecito doesn't see it this way, though. Not totally, at least. Instead of choosing to focus on time with family or the frivolities of Halloween, Sollecito can't let go of the fact that he and Amanda broke up thanks to the Italian injustice system.

In his first interview since being released, Sollecito told the Italian television show, Quarto Grado, that he and Knox's relationship was over because of the "cruel injustice" they suffered. He continued: "Our love was like a seed that was not allowed to grow because it was brutally stamped on. We were both victims of a cruel injustice and our relationship was overcome by this tragedy. Our lives are linked by circumstances but now they are very different."

Clearly, the state of Knox and Sollecito's romantic relationship -- or lack thereof -- is a result of everything they've gone through. I don't know how any two people could sustain an intimate connection during such a time. It seems damn near impossible, and it is sad, but ... not half as sad as the fact that a young girl is dead.

It seems like kind of a funny thing to talk about in his first interview -- how he and his girlfriend were broken up by the trial. Aren't there bigger, more important things to focus on -- like, how he's glad to finally be free, and how that still doesn't change the fact that Meredith Kercher was brutally murdered?

I feel bad that Sollecito and his one-time girlfriend were torn apart by this mess. Who knows what could have been? (Though, if reports that Amanda is already dating classical guitarist James Terrano are true, probably not much.) But to focus on their break-up, as opposed to the fact that he's now free to enjoy his life as he should -- while Meredith Kercher's family will never see her again -- seems kind of foolish.

Do you think Rafaele Sollecito should be talking about his relationship with Amanda Knox?
