Stop Treating Amanda Knox Like She's Still in Jail

amanda knoxLet's assume, for argument's sake, that Amanda Knox really is innocent of Meredith Kercher's murder. Which, by the way, I actually do believe and always have. But even if you're still on the fence, just hop over to the "not guilty" side for a little while and contemplate this question: Amanda Knox already spent four years in jail for a crime she didn't commit. She's been punished enough, especially since she didn't do anything to be punished for in the first place. So why is everybody getting on her case for walking down the street arm-in-arm with a "mystery man"?

If any young 20-something deserves to take a leisurely stroll with a nice young man and the sun shining on her face, it's a girl who lost a big chunk of her youth to an Italian prison cell.

I'll admit the Halloween costume Knox wore to a party earlier this week was in poor taste ...

But I still think she had every right to go to a Halloween party, even if it was the anniversary of Kercher's death. Her stint in jail was like an accelerated mourning period. She suffered enough as a result of Kercher's tragic murder. Is she supposed to dress in black for the rest of her life like a widow? Stay inside with the curtains drawn?

Some are asking what this means for Knox's Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, who was also cleared of all charges related to Kercher's murder. Sollecito reportedly can't wait to be reunited with his American flame, which is giving people just one more way to knock Knox: Oooh, now she's cheating on her boyfriend.

Look, if I were that girl, I'd never want to look at a plate of spaghetti again, let alone get back together with my Italian boyfriend. Amanda Knox should be free to move on entirely. If the world continues to criticize and analyze her every move, she may as well be back in jail.

Do you think Amanda Knox deserves a fresh start?
