Parents of Missing 10-Month-Old Will Lose No Matter What (VIDEO)

baby lisa irwinThe case of missing 10-month-old Lisa Irwin has taken a surprising turn, one that makes me very, very nervous. Not that the story hasn't made me feel nervous and sick from the very start. But now Kansas City police are saying that baby Lisa's parents, Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin, have "stopped cooperating" with detectives on the investigation into their little girl's apparent abduction.

Stopped cooperating. Did reading those words make your heart sink, too?

I don't mean to imply that Deborah Bradley is responsible for her own daughter's disappearance. That's not an accusation I would make lightly. But Bradley's story and police accounts don't quite match up, which means somebody is either lying or misinformed and neither possibility sounds great for Lisa.

Kansas City police Capt. Steve Young says, "The mother and the father no longer want to talk to detectives," a development that "doesn't help the case."

Bradley and Irwin deny ceasing communication with the police -- they want to cooperate, they insist -- but at the same time, Bradley made several comments that would lead one to believe otherwise.

"From the start when they questioned me, once I couldn't fill in blanks, it turned into 'You did it, you did it,'" says Bradley. "They took a picture down from the table and said, 'Look at your baby! And do what's right for her!' I kept saying I didn't know ... I just sat there."

Bradley also said police told her she failed a polygraph test. Police wouldn't confirm her statement, but they did say Bradley and Irwin's claim that their cellphones were stolen from the house when Lisa was taken hasn't turned up any leads.

Like I said, I can't bring myself to accuse Lisa's parents of anything or to even suggest their involvement; likewise, I don't want to assume that the police are somehow dropping the ball here. But something isn't adding up here, and the last thing you want when a baby goes missing is more questions than answers.

Whatever the truth is, there's no question Lisa's mom and dad are in complete anguish. Just watch ...
