Texas Fires Seen From Space Will Shock You (VIDEO)

Texas fire from space station

If you want to get an idea of how crazy and out-of-control the Texas brush fires are, check out the view from 230 miles overhead. Astronauts from the International Space Station took video of the fires, both from a handheld camera inside the station and from an exterior camera mounted to the craft.

You can best grasp the size and scope of the wildfires from the views looking backward to Texas as the station moves away. The plumes seem to be everywhere. Expedition 28 Flight Engineer Mike Fossum, who was holding the handheld camera, called the shot a "sad sight." If they can look this scary and dramatic from space, just imagine what it is like on the ground face-to-face. Scary.

Check out the amazing video:

Firefighters have managed to get some fires under control, but the Bastrop County Complex Wildfire, and an additional smaller one, which have burned over 34,000 acres, are still raging uncontrollably. To make matters worse, police are now looking for four teenagers they believe may have set a blaze in Bastrop County on purpose.

What do you think of this video? Did you have any idea the fires were so bad?
