Woman Who Stuffed Dead Roommate in Suitcase Has Something to Hide

suitcaseIf ever there were an award for the fishiest-sounding story of all time, I think this woman from New York would get it: Monique Exum, 36, admitted to police that after coming home one day to find her 73-year-old roommate dead in their Bronx apartment, she stuffed his body in a suitcase, wrote "rest in peace" on a strip of cardboard placed atop the luggage, and ditched it outside an abandoned home.

Hmmm ... sounds like foul play, doesn't it? And yet Monique -- who's charged with improper body removal and is being held on $500 bond (is that all?) -- insists she is completely innocent.

Here's the excuse she gave the cops as to whatever would possess her to dispose her roommate's body in a suitcase:

My friend told me if someone dies in your apartment you go to jail, so I got really afraid ... I didn't know what to do.

I had to read the story multiple times to really take in her justification. And, I don't care what she says, this roommate from hell is hiding something. There's just got to be more to the story and more to why she didn't alert authorities when she found her roommate dead. Nobody with a clear conscience leaves a body in a suitcase for the neighbors to find three months later; by that time, the decomposed body stunk to high heaven just because she wanted to "avoid trouble" (her words).

Either that or Monique is the dumbest person alive -- you pick.
